Today FM Listen Back - Irish Toy Company Makes First Doll With Cochlear Implant

Wildlife Photographer Mia has been chosen as the Editor's Pick for Today FM, thanks to Kim Buckley for the coverage on 13th November 2017.

Arklu in Letterkenny, which makes the Lottie dolls, came up with the idea as part of its policy to introduce more diverse toys on the market.

"An Irish toy-making company has thrilled hearing impaired kids by making the world's first doll with a cochlear implant."

Mia wears a cochlear implant, which is part of her story rather than a focal point. Mia is a collaboration with 'Toy Like Me' a UK non-profit who campaign for diversity in the toy-box and for better representation of disabilities so that differently abled children can see themselves reflected in the toys they play with.
