Stargazing duo bringing Irish schoolchildren to Mars!!
If you haven’t already heard of it, ‘Train Like a Martian’ is a global challenge which runs from May 14 -18. It is a week of fun activities that bring awareness to the importance of science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) education, space exploration and physical fitness to students and adults around the world!
During the week, there are lots of opportunities for individuals, teachers, students and sports teams to win some amazing prizes including these wonderful Lottie bundles!
Today, we’re announcing that there’s a very, very special addition being made in Ireland to that wonderful prize list – the chance to win one of five ‘Inspired by Space’ workshops delivered by real life space explorer Dr Niamh Shaw!
Joined by her assistant, Stargazer Lottie, Dr Niamh Shaw will visit your school and conduct a science based workshop created to ignite a love of STEM.
The workshop teaches children about astronomy in a fun and engaging way, through presentation, storytelling and drama.
Beginning with a talk about Space, the scale of the Universe and our part it in and Dreaming Big, this drama art workshop inspires the students to know that they can be anything they want to be.
Inspired by Lottie and Niamh's dream to go to Space, participating students will be asked to ‘Dream Big’ and imagine what it is they want to be when they grow up. Using positive role models like Lottie we have an opportunity to embed in children at an early age, that they are the masters of their own destiny and have the capacity to achieve their dreams.
The Mars Generation was founded in 2015 by then 18-year-old Abigail Harrison, known to many Astronaut Abby. At just 13 years old, Abby was embraced by the space community as a leader of her generation, the Mars Generation.
Learning about the addition of these five excellent workshops to the Irish prize-list, Abby had this to say:
